Newcastle United have confirmed that Kevin Keegan has not been sack as manager. Rumours were ripe that the Newcastle board had sacked Keegan. The sun newspaper reported that the bust up was because owner Mike Ashley had tried to offload Owen and Barton on the last day of the transfer window against his wishes.

Kevin Keegan is also thought to be unhappy at the lack of input he has on incoming transfers, he was also upset that Milner was sold to Aston Villa days after he stated the player wasn’t for sale.
Newcastle United waited until shortly before 7pm before releasing the following statement.

Newcastle United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.

Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him.
The Club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.

Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James’ Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the Club.

For the avoidance of doubt the Club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager.

So is Keegan still the manager or has he walked away?

If so can anyone really blame him?

Just weeks after Keegan joined the club Dennis Wise was bought in; many believe that Wise is in charge of the running of the club with the exception of picking the team. This is rumoured to include the buying and selling of players. If this is the case then why bring Keegan back to the club in the first place.

Once the rumours started the backlash that followed was unbelievable with supporters, ex-players and the media slating the club. Maybe Ashley underestimated the love and trust that the fans have for Keegan. If Keegan has walked the bookies favourite to replace him is Wise, one thing for sure is he will have little support from the fans.

The takeover promised to bring good fortune to Newcastle, however the Newcastle fans have to suffer once again as a result of bad decision making from the board.
